As an experienced hands-on professional, with over 25 years of clinical experience in skin care, Christine Heathman holds 3 licenses in aesthetics, an Esthetic license in California, a Master license in Utah, and an Esthetic license in Europe. She is trained in Manual Lymphatic Drainage for both the body and the face. In addition, Christine is a Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Utah, certified in Repetitive Use Injury Therapy (RUIT) and a camouflage makeup artist who has extensive experience with burn patients and other types of skin deformities. Her medical affiliations have included Saint Francis Hospital and Stanford Dermatology Department—both located in San Francisco, and The Institute of Facial Surgery in Salt Lake City. In addition, Christine was the first contracted Medical Esthetician with the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Serving as past Educational Director/Vice President of the prestigious American Esthetician Association, Christine assisted in building and unifying the aesthetic profession in the United States through affiliated networking. This concept has brought together and inspired massage therapists, spa technicians, medical aestheticians, physicians, nutritionists, nurses and cosmetologists to strengthen these professions through shared education. Christine was instrumental in providing the necessary objectivity to accomplish the agenda of the State Board for Aesthetics. Her past and present perseverance, coupled with professional neutrality, is dedicated in the best interest of skin care professionals and the safety of the public nationwide.
Christine has also served as the guiding force in the interest of the Esthetician’s Act for the State of Utah. Assisting in the passage of the Utah State Bill HB 105 for the licensure of estheticians, Christine Heathman, CME, LMT served on the Esthetician’s Act task force to establish safety guidelines for the State of Utah’s Master Esthetician license. This licensing act propelled Utah as the first state to provide both an esthetician license and a master esthetician license. Currently other state license boards communicate with Christine with strong interest to implement the same type of license as other states follow this advanced level of aesthetic expertise.
As a manufacturer of professional aesthetic and medical skin care, Christine is both the CEO and architect of GlyMed Plus Purely Professional Skin Care products. Christine thoroughly understands the manufacturer side considering the importance of phytopharmaceutical and biological ingredients alongside medically effective AHAs—and other science-based ingredients—and their safety guidelines for estheticians. Christine was one of the first manufacturers to refuse to use unnecessarily harsh or unnatural chemicals in her products—in addition to being one of the first to use certified organic ingredients in professional skin care—and has always maintained integrity in product formulations to support the health of all types of skin.
As the director of education for the GlyMed Plus Institute of Skin Science™ headquartered in Spanish Fork, Utah, Christine directs and provides a comprehensive training program for Medical Staff, Spa Professionals and Estheticians on Paramedical Esthetics, Skin Biology, Ingredient Biochemistry, Condition-Specific Treatment and Product-Specific Methodologies. Christine’s dedication to education is well established in the skin care industry and is known on a global basis for exceptional schooling in advanced skin care. Her personal commitment for the training that directly affects the professionalism, values and ethics in skin care is priority.
On a business side, Christine thoroughly understands how to effectively build and manage a business from a skin care clinic to a corporation. She believes this is advantageous since most licensed professionals struggle with learning how to build both clientele and profitability. The importance of sanitation, medical protocol and professional ethics within a clinical skin care environment has been the basic standard of all courses established at the institute and around the world.
Christine’s experience with the medical profession is also well established. She has practiced clinical aesthetics for over 20 years and was one of the founders of this unique brand of skin treatment, and has been credited by many professionals to be the driving force of clinical skin care throughout the United States. She was one of the first aestheticians to partner with physicians to care for patients of variable needs. Christine’s skills extend to pre and post operative conditions, accidental maladies, congenital defects and a wide variety of other dermatological conditions. In addition, she has shared her talent by writing many magazine articles, 6 training manuals, produced several training videos and established many of the current guidelines used within the medical environment associated with skin care today. Beginning In 2004, and continuing on today, Christine lectures extensively throughout the United States on the topic of The New Ethnic Skin—teaching the most progressive information to date on accessing and beautifying skin for all ethnic types—i.e., the new generation of skin. This information has spawned a new era in understanding skin from an individualized and genetic basis based on ethnic skin blends, as opposed to arbitrarily treating every skin as one nationality.
Christine has also been a guest on many television programs including an appearance in May 2003 on Fox 13 Salt Lake City regarding ultrasound skin care and the benefit for aging, acne and stressed skin.
Christine is also currently involved with the Women Beyond Cancer Foundation of Utah. This is a non-profit foundation located in Park City, Utah, created for cancer survivors. Here, they can receive services ranging from psychological therapy to skin care. Christine donates her time, services, education and GlyMed Plus Professional Only product for the cancer patients associated with this organization. Out of this continuing gesture was born the non-profit Marie’s Gift Foundation dedicated to her aunt Marie’s memory that died of breast and lung cancer. Marie Smith Chakirian was an advocate in her own right for cancer survivors and set up one of the first support groups in the state of Washington. Christine has vowed to carry on her legacy in her honor.
